The army says a bomb discovered in a housing estate in Limerick tonight was 'viable'.
Several homes had to be evacuated in Cullinagh in Newcastle West when a suspicious object was found shortly after six pm.
The bomb squad was called in and the device was dismantled at the scene - the area has been declared safe within the last hour.

There are no reports of damage but all evidence will be handed over to the Gardaí.
