The High Court has refused a request from solicitor Brian O'Donnell and his wife for an injunction against the repossession of their south Dublin home.

Bank Of Ireland had recovered the property as Mr O'Donnell and his wife Mary-Pat owed them over €70m. However the court has rejected their bid to stop a receiver taking possession of their mansion at Vico Rd, Killiney, county Dublin.

Mr O'Donnell, along with the Land League, has effectively barricaded himself inside the property, but Bank of Ireland is now bringing trespass proceedings against the bankrupt lawyer and his wife Mary.

The Land League says that O'Donnell and his wife will not be vacating the property despite the court injunction being rejected. Their representative John Martin spoke shortly after the ruling:

The house, situated on the Vico Road in Killiney, was once valued at around €30m.

This luxury home overlooking Killiney Bay boasts a swimming pool and tennis court on its grounds - and lists the likes of Bono and Enya as its neighbours.

The house is now valued at about €7m and is the subject of a repossession order, granted to Bank of Ireland last month.

During the High Court hearing yesterday, Mr O'Donnell's son Blake said his parents have a right of residence at the property.

However, not everyone is so sympathetic to the cause of the O'Donnell family, like these people on Killiney Beach.

Brian O'Donnell and his wife Mary Patricia have been staging a sit-in at the property since yesterday morning, along with members of the Land League blocking the entrance to the house.

Their spokesperson John Martin says while he understands the lack of sympathy, the Land League represents all groups of society.
