A campaigner for victims of sexual abuse in national schools has rejected the new government package for survivors.

Louise O'Keeffe - who was abused by a teacher in the 1970's - successfully took her case to Europe after the Supreme Court ruled the State was not liable for abuse at the hands of teachers.

Under the scheme announced today, the State is to make immediate out of court settlements with 44 victims.

But 135 others who discontinued their cases will have to wait to find out if they get compensation.

Speaking on the Last Word, Louise O'Keeffe said the distinction between the two groups of victims is disgraceful.
