Chelsea have been drawn against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-final draw.

Jose Mourinho's side must get past Diego Simeone's impressive team to reach this year's final in Lisbon.

The victor will meet Bayern Munich or Real Madrid in the May decider after the two European giants were pitted together.

Chelsea last met Atletico in the 2012 UEFA Super Cup with the Spanish side prevailing in a 4 - 1 win inspired by Radamel Falcao's hat-trick.

The Colombian may not be part of Atletico's armoury any more but of far more importance is the possible absence of goalkeeper Thiabut Courtois.

On loan from Chelsea, yesterday Atletico claimed that they would have to pay €6 million in order to field him against his parent club.

But UEFA's stance on the issue swings things in Atletico's favour as the governing body emphasized that the hefty fee is not enforceable and is "null and void", meaning Courtois should be able to play.

The semi-final first legs take place on April 22nd and 23rd with the returns on April 29th and 30th.

In the Europa League semi-final draw, Spanish sides Sevilla and Valencia were drawn together, with Juventus and Benfica on the other side of the draw.
