Oscar nominated actor Chiwetel Ejiofor is promoting his new film Half Of A Yellow Sun but finds himself talking about James Bond.

Rumours have circulated in recent days that Ejiofor is to play that most deliciously devious of roles, made famous by characters such as Goldfinger and Dr No- the Bond baddie.

Ejiofor is coy about the rumours that the new Sam Mendes Bond film will feature the British actor. Speaking on The Green Room, the actor says the talk is all speculation at this point. When pressed about the idea of playing the part, Ejiofor concedes:

“Well who wouldn’t (want to), it’s an extraordinary adventure.”

Half Of A Yellow Sun, the film adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s award-winning novel sees the British born actor return to his Nigerian roots alongside co-star Thandie Newton, in a fictional account of the country’s civil war.

Ejiofor says he spent hours recording interviews with his grandfather some years ago talking about the Biafran war and would listen to the tapes over and over again during filming.

Half Of A Yellow Sun was shot directly before the filming of 12 Years A Slave. Ejiofor said the Steve Mc Queen film required so much depth and anguish, that it was a relief to work with an actor such as Michael Fassbender.

“Michael’s an incredible actor and a terrific person to work with. Somebody who gives extraordinary commitment to the roles he plays and is just a brilliant brilliant actor to go on a journey with.”

The film wasn’t all work. Fassbender it seems is great company too. Going out and having fun with Fassbender at the weekends was an important part of the filming process, says Ejiofor.

To hear the full interview, tune into The Green Room with Orla Barry this Saturday evening from 9-11pm

Half Of A Yellow Sun opens in cinemas on Friday April 11th 2014
