International protests are taking place today calling for a change to Irish abortion law. Protests are being held in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Belfast, London and Berlin.

The Health Service Executive (HSE) says it will publish the terms of reference of an investigation into the sequence of events surrounding the case of the young woman who was refused an abortion under the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Act.

The HSE ordered the report on Monday, which it expects to be completed by the end of September. It says the report will not seek to review the decision taken by the clinicians involved.

The woman at the centre of the case claims she was raped before coming to Ireland. She had her baby delivered by Caesarean section as it was deemed too late in her pregnancy for a termination to be carried out.

The HSE has meanwhile hit back at claims that it knew about the woman's case in May. That is two months earlier than previously reported.

The HSE has said any inference that it misled anyone during the 8-22 week period of the woman's pregnancy is wrong. It says the investigation announced yesterday is being undertaken to discern what happened during that time.

"The HSE at no point is leading anyone to any conclusions about what happened during this time. They are clear on what happened from 22 weeks onwards but the investigation is being undertaken to discern what happened before that time" said Paul Conners, national director of communication for the HSE.

The Irish Times claims the woman had tried to take her own life while 16 weeks pregnant - and it was a that point that a counsellor flagged the case with the health authority.

Her baby was delivered by C-section at 25 weeks after a doctor ruled the pregnancy was too advanced for an abortion.

Irish Times journalist Kitty Holland talked to the woman at the centre of the case, Kitty spoke to Newstalk Breakfast earlier.

Choice Ireland has organised a demonstration for 6pm this evening on O'Connell Street in Dublin.

Its spokesperson Suzanne Lee says the Protection of Life during Pregnancy Act needs to be changed.

Sarah McCarthy is spokesperson with Galway Pro-Choice. She says this case highlights major flaws in the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Act.

And that Irish abortion laws are forcing women to look to the UK for options.

And Sarah Cantwell is from the group 'Speaking of Imelda' in London.

The protests will take place at the Irish embassies in London and Berlin.
