A Cork charity is hoping to raise funds for one of their dogs after discovering he has a genetic disorder.

Geoffrey, who was originally intended to assist people with physical disabilities, has a genetic joint disorder called canine elbow dysplasia which is treatable but requires surgery.

The charity are hoping to raise the money for the surgery in order to provide Geoffrey with a good quality of life.

The charity's CEO Jennifer Dowler told Cork News: "The dogs do so much for us, we can't turn our backs on them when they need us".

"Obviously there would be a train of thought, '€10,000 for a dog, are you mad?'. But our dogs do so much for children and adults living with physical disabilities that we simply can't turn our backs on those in our programme that, through no fault of their own, have health problems."

A bank account has been set up with AIB Blarney for anyone who would like to donate to the cause. The IBAN number is IE20AIBK 93638343643263 and the BIC code is AIBKIE2D.
