Gardai investigating an aggravated burglary at the home of a pensioner in Cork, are appealing for witnesses.

A 68-year-old man returned to his home on the Cross Douglas Road at around half past four yesterday afternoon, to find a male intruder.

A struggle ensued and the man sustained a head injury and what is believed to be a stab wound to his lower body.

He was taken to Cork University Hospital, where his injuries are described as non life threatening.

The suspect escaped with a computer and camera equipment.

Gardai in Douglas are appealing for information.
