Cork's SeaFest takes place as new marine research centre opens

The best of Ireland's ocean and maritime resources are being celebrated in Co. Cork today.

SeaFest is taking place in Cork Harbour, with an international maritime conference being held in Ringaskiddy.

The conference and festival coincide with the opening of a new state of the art research centre at the National Maritime College in Ringaskiddy.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny and the Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney opened the Beaufort Building facility earlier this afternoon.

The €15m research centre will be home to 135 researchers and support staff who will work with high-tech test tanks and dedicated workshops.
