The Defence Minister Simon Coveney has warned he will not send any more Irish troops to a civil war in the Golan Heights.
A review of the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission on the border between Israel and Syria is underway after other troops were taken captive.
Ireland is due to rotate our 133 peacekeepers in the coming weeks - but no decision on continued participation has been made.
Mr Coveney has said the UN must continue to monitor and evaluate the safety of the mission to ensure the safety of peacekeepers and observers.
The next deployment of Defence Forces personnel to the region has been delayed by a fortnight as UN forces redeploy to alternative bases for safety concerns.
Mr Coveney has told the Dáil that Ireland will only deploy troops if the nature of the mission does not change.
