Monday morning’s front pages are a diverse lot, with no one story grabbing the lead across the board.

This morning’s Irish Times leads with “State pays over €700m for refugee services in 5 years”, while the Irish Examiner goes with “Helpline flooded with sex abuse calls”.

There’s a good smattering of interesting pieces inside the papers, with the Irish Daily Mail detailing the “€48,000 a day bank shambles” cost of the Banking Inquiry, as well as a story about an Irishman who allegedly killed as many as 18 people in London in the 1970s - but was never convicted of the crimes.

Inside the papers Kieran Cuddihy – standing in today for Ivan – was drawn to a story on the dangers of giving a child a smartphone or tablet, something which Kieran admits he does pretty regularly with his young son.

Chris spotted a couple of stories on the medicine and biology side of things – with the story of an increase in diabetes amputations in Ireland, and a study suggesting that people live longer because they have fewer mutated genes.

And the news that €20,000 was spent on some specially imported crockery and cutlery for Leinster House had Kieran wondering aloud “Does the TD from Offaly really need to impress the TD from Carlow sitting next to him?” and Christ suggesting a trip to

IKEA might have been more cost effective - “Let’s import it from Ballymun.”
