It is establishing a Global Business Services (GBS) centre at City Gate Park, Mahon in Cork, and will fill all 40 jobs by the end of the year.
The Cork GBS centre is a result of the company's efforts to consolidate and centralise accounting processes.

“Our project team determined that Ireland best suited our criteria and is the right fit for our company,” said Steve Helmbrecht, Itron’s Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.

Barry O’Leary, CEO, IDA Ireland said "The ICT Sector in Ireland attracts substantial global investment, with 9 of the top 10 US ICT companies having strategic operations in Ireland. Itron Inc. setting up in Cork, contributes to this ICT cluster and enhances the profile of the Southern region as a location of choice for international business activities."

Yesterday the government welcomed the announcement of a seperate cache of 40 jobs for Cork city, at Alien Vault.
