Gardai in Dublin are investigating the fifth car jacking incident in the area in just over a month. It happened on Windmill Road in Crumlin just before midnight on Saturday.

According to the Irish Independent, a motorist was threatening by a gang - one of whom was armed with a knife - after he was forced to stop his car.

The man escaped without injury when he abandoned the vehicle.

This is the most recent in a spate of carjackings in the capital.

Last week, a man was arrested over an incident in Terenure, where a woman and her two children were stopped at traffic and a man - claimed to be carrying a weapon - got into the back of the car and demanded money.

He told her to drive to her house and retrieve bank cards. He then demanded she drive to an ATM at the AIB Bank in Rathgar to withdraw money.

She was then forced to drive the car to Portobello, where he climbed out of the car.

This day last week a female tourist was injured in an incident in Co. Wicklow after stopping to help at the scene of a road collision.

While a fortnight ago a woman in her 30s - who was seven and a half months pregnant - was sitting in the passenger seat of a car when it was hijacked on Hill Street, near Mountjoy Square.

She sustained head injuries after the carjacker, who was armed with a blood-filled syringe, tried to push her from the moving vehicle by punching her in the face.

And a woman was knocked unconscious and hospitalised last month when a man and a woman attempted to steal her 'Ford Focus' car in Ballsbridge as she was entering the code for electronic gates.
