US fugitive Edward Snowden has been granted asylum for one year in Russia.

The former intelligence agency worker has left Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport where he has been holed up for over a month.

Edward Snowden's lawyer says he was given a certificate today awarding him temporary asylum.

The 30-year-old is wanted by the US government for questioning over the leaking of classified documents.
