Labour members will find out this afternoon if they will be able to vote on an emergency motion regarding the future of Aer Lingus.

The party's conference gets underway in Killarney this evening, with eight TDs demanding extra terms and conditions on any possible sale.

If it is accepted, Labour members will vote on the motion on Sunday.

Labour Deputy Michael McNamara told Newstalk Lunchtime the wording of tonight's motion is primarily about job security for Aer Lingus staff:

Earlier this week, Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe said the €1.4bn bid does not go far enough - with the future of Heathrow landing slots the main obstacle.

IAG chief Willie Walsh says they will respond to the Government - and says Aer Lingus would have a brighter future as part of his group.

Meanwhile more than 1,000 delegates, dignitaries and media representatives are expected to attend this weekend's Labour party conference - which will take place in the INEC in Killarney, Co Kerry.

Party members debate a number of motions, develop party policy and to plan ahead for the next general election.

The party leader, Joan Burton, will deliver the leader's address on Saturday evening.

Marie Moloney is a Labour Senator in Kerry:
