Facebook is expanding in Dublin again. The social media giant is doubling the size of its European headquarters in the Docklands.

The Irish Times reports that just months after moving into a substantial new building beside the Grand Canal Theatre, Facebook has agreed rental terms for a similar adjoining block.

It currently employs about 500 people in Dublin - but it is thought that with the new premises, a recruitment drive may be on the cards.

The social network announced last year that is was planning to double its workforce here with a 120,000 square foot office space in Grand Canal Square.

The building has capacity for 1,000 employees, which Facebook has previously said will give room for its Irish team "to grow to twice its current size".

It said it will allow Facebook to further expand operations that include user operations, database engineering, server support, public policy, safety, marketing and advertising sales.

The company has been based in the capital since 2009.

The National Asset Management Agency (NAMA) advanced funding to complete the current building.
