The National Library says no art works were damaged or in danger during a small fire there today. The blaze broke out in the basement of a building on Kildare Street which houses the administrative offices of the library.
It was brought under control after the library and nearby buildings were evacuated. The National Library says the fire began during maintenance works.
Kildare Street in Dublin was sealed off for a brief time this afternoon.
Gardaí made the move as several units of the fire service were on scene to deal with the incident.
It is understood the blaze broke out at around midday.
