Our constitution will soon be updated to recognise same-sex marriage.
It comes after the Irish public made history by voting in favour of the move in the referendum.
Health Minister Leo Varadkar's promised the legislation necessary will be passed by July, allowing for the first gay marriages by the autumn.
The Archbishop of Dublin says the church has to be aware that Ireland has changed. He spoke to RTE following the Yes victory:
"I think the Church needs to do a reality check right across the board.
"Have we drifted away completely from young people? Most of those people who voted Yes are products of our Catholic schools for 12 years."
