Gardaí in Westmeath are appealing for witnesses following a shooting outside a pub in Ballymore, Athlone.

It happened at half past seven yesterday evening. A number of shots were fired, but no one was injured.

A car involved in the incident - a Hyundai Trajet with a Laois registration - was seen travelling in the Athlone direction. It was found on fire a short time later.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination. Anyone with information is asked to contact Athlone Garda Station.
