Gardaí investigating an alleged sexual assault in Dublin are making an appeal for information.

A 20-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted opposite St Peter's Church at Cabra Park in Phibsboro between 7:15pm and 8:45pm last Sunday night.

Gardaí say three men were involved in the incident and have released descriptions of the suspects.

Gardaí say the main culprit is 5’9” tall, of slim build, with shaved blonde hair and light facial stubble. He is also described as having facial scarring.

He was wearing grey cotton trousers with a white stripe down the side, a grey jumper with a hood and black runners.

The second man is described as six foot tall with a thin face and dark eyes. He was wearing a dark grey sweatshirt with a hood and has a distinctive scar on his left hand.

No description is available for the third man.

The woman was taken to the Sexual Assault Unit at the Rotunda Hospital for treatment.

Investigating officers would also like to speak to a man who may have met the suspects in the laneway following the alleged incident.

They are also appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have information to contact them at Mountjoy Garda Station (01 666 8600), the Garda confidential line (1800 666 111), or any garda station.

Speaking to Newstalk Breakfast earlier, Irish Daily Mirror crime reporter Cathal McMahon said local councillor Ray McAdam has expressed concern about the alleyway where the attack is alleged to have happened:
