A woman has been arrested in connection with the death of a two-year-old boy in Shankill.

The toddler's body was found in an apartment on Shanganagh Road this afternoon.

An ambulance carrying the boy's body left the Ridge Hall complex in Ballybrack at around seven o'clock this evening.

Just hours beforehand, Gardai were called to the south Dublin suburb where they found the two-year-old's body inside one of the apartments.

A post-mortem will reveal exactly how he died but it is believed he may have been stabbed.

A woman in her 40s was arrested and is being held at Dun Laoghaire garda station.
