Gardaí are investigating a suspected early morning petrol bomb attack at Ennis courthouse in Co Clare.

Officers discovered a bottle and traces of an accelerant - believed to be petrol - inside the building at around 4am this morning.

Two units of the fire brigade attended the scene, although the fire didn't catch hold.

The courtroom and basement area of the building were affected by smoke.

Gardaí at Ennis are investigating.
