Up to 40% of objections to the Garth Brooks gig may have been forged, a garda investigation has revealed.

An investigation is under way into complaints lodged against the five Croke Park gigs, as its reported up to 40% of residents had no knowledge of the planning objections made in their name, according to the Sunday Independent.

380 objections were made against the concerts. Gardai began investigating these objections last week and by Friday had contacted 180 of the 380 households who had objected. Their investigation revealed that 35-40% of the residents had no knowledge of the objections lodged in their name.

The entire process is expected to be completed within the next few days. A garda source said, “We have called to 180 of the complainants . . . and around 35 to 40% of the complaints are dubious to say the least,” a source said.
Dublin City Council alerted Gardai to their suspicions regarding the objections as “the vast majority” of objections were delivered “in bulk” to the Dublin City Council office on Wood Quay.

The Council sent residents an acknowledgement of their receipt of the objections but 11 residents then contacted the council to inform them they had made no objection.

A formal investigation is under way and Gardai are trying to trace the person who delivered the bulk load of submissions.

Gardai are trying to trace the person who dropped off the package of submissions, using CCTV footage from the council officers and by interviewing city council staff.
