Gardaí say they'll be "intensively" targeting speeding drivers over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Nearly 45,000 fixed charge notices have been issued so far this year - a figure that's up by over 16% on 2013 numbers.
Gardaí say they've clocked some drivers travelling at twice and even three times the speed limit in some cases. Officers are particularly worried about the increase in incidents in urban areas.
