The Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald and interim Garda Commissioner Noirin O'Sullivan are rejecting claims that the force is ill-disciplined and out of control.
The two made the comments in the wake of new allegations from Garda Sergeant Maurice McCabe - that penalty points are still being cancelled.
Sergeant McCabe has made a fresh round of allegations that the system is still being abused by some members of the gardaí, after he was given information by other officers.
He has now been asked to assist the Garda Professional Standard Unit in their work on the issue.
Sergeant McCabe's original claims of points being wrongly deleted were upheld by the Guerin report earlier this year.
Ms Fitzgerald and Ms O'Sullivan say any infringements will be dealt with with the utmost seriousness, and action will be taken if necessary.
Senior garda management, including Commissioner O'Sullivan, are to meet with Sergeant McCabe at Garda Headquarters in Dublin this afternoon.
Ms O'Sullivan says she is treating the new allegations very seriously.
