Gardai called in as residents of Cork estate stop water metre installations

Gardai had to be called to a county Cork housing estate today after residents refused to allow Irish Water staff install meters.

Residents of the Ashbrook Estate in Togher described it as a 'peaceful protest'.

They say they are determined to keep up their fight against the meters.

It is understood that all work ceased at the site as residents engaged with gardai.

These locals told Cork's Red FM they have no contract with Irish Water and they are not prepared to back down.
