Google is reconfiguring its European operations.

The changes will see Irish bosses report to superiors in London for the first time.

However, sources say there will be no job losses at their Dublin office, and that day-to-day operartions will be unchanged.

All of Google's European business is set to be combined with its Middle East and Africa division.

It comes just over a week after the announcement that the head of its Irish operations, John Herlihy, will leave the company on April 30th. He will be succeeded by Ronan Harris.

Mr Herlihy is also vice president of Google sales operations in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

He joined the company in 2005 and led the development of Google's EMEA sales operations, growing the site from 50 people to more than 2,500 direct employees.

Under his leadership, Google also acquired its EMEA campus on Barrow Street in Dublin's Docklands, located a new data centre in Ireland, and established The Foundry - the search engine's first centre for digital excellence in Europe.

Last month, the firm also announced that it was ending sales of its Google Glass eyewear.

The wearable technology was released in the summer, but the trial has ended to allow developers to work on future versions.

The company said it was still committed to launching the smart glasses as a consumer product, but will stop producing it in its present form.
