The head of the Foreign Affairs Committee is travelling to Egypt this morning to discuss the case of Dublin teenager Ibrahim Halawa.
The 19-year-old was arrested in Cairo two years ago and has had his trial date delayed a number of times.
There have been calls for the Irish Government to put more pressure on Egypt to release the teenager.
His trial was postponed for the ninth time last month until October.
He has been imprisoned since his arrest in August of 2013 during protests in Cairo against the toppling of former Egyptian president, Mohammed Morsi.
The chairman of the Foreign Foreign Affairs Committee, Pat Breen, is travelling to Cairo today.
He told Newstalk Breakfast that a diplomatic solution is the best way forward.
