The Transport Minister has confirmed that Government officials met with representatives from International Consolidated Airlines Group (IAG), regarding Aer Lingus earlier today.

Paschal Donohoe says last week's statement, which outlined the basis on which further consideration would be given to the IAG proposal, was discussed at today's meeting.

“Clarity on the overall employment prospects on the basis of the proposals received is still needed, with particular reference to the timeframe within which net additional employment would be created,” Mr Donohoe said in a statement last week.

He went on to say that the Government, while it may be receptive toa future offer, needed more from IAG in several areas, including regarding plans of transatlantic traffic and expansion.

“Aer Lingus sees the potential for its planned growth in transatlantic traffic to be significantly accelerated and for new US destinations to be added to its network,” Mr Donohue said.

A further meeting is planned before the end of next week.
