Last night Diego Costa made his second international debut. After switching allegiances from the land of his birth Brazil at the end of last year, the Atletico Madrid striker made his Spain bow against Italy in a 1 - 0 win.

However, the fiery 25-year-old failed to shine last night but after the game Spain manager Vicente Del Bosque showed no signs of concern when he spoke to our European football correspondent Graham Hunter.

"Costa was the interesting one. I had a big, long interview with Vicente Del Bosque this morning post-match and the feeling was that Costa thought he had to evolve or change and be tippy tappy like they do. Del Bosque said that's not what he wants and wants [Costa] to stay like he is. He wants him to represent the values on the pitch that has brought Costa to his attention. I think Costa is on a learning curve. It was like he was at his Sunday best and tip-toeing around trying not to make a noise in the library," said Graham who also discussed the strenght in depth up front and across the squad.

Graham also praised the performance at right back of Chelsea's Cesar Azpilicueta and was also impressed by Bayern Munich's versatile midfielder Javi Martinez at centre back, who played the game "smoking a cigar".

And finally he also gave his take on the summer departure of Barcelona icon and club captain Carles Puyol, with our own Ger Gilroy sharing a fitting anecdote about the man.
