A gunman has shot dead eight people in the eastern Czech town of Uhersky Brod, the interior ministry has said.

News agency CTK quoted interior minister Milan Chovanec as saying the suspected shooter was also dead.

According to Czech television station Ceska Televize (CT), the shooting took place in a restaurant, 300 km (180 miles) southeast of Prague.

Police have declined to comment on the number of victims.
