NASA have announced another major breakthrough in the exploration of space, with the new that they have discovered a planet that appears to be not too dissimilar to our own.

Kepler-452b is 1,400 light-years away and most importantly is orbiting a star that is very similar to our own sun, although it is 60% larger. Its position, and its proximity to its own sun, have given hope that this could be a planet with life.

Ivan spoke with Breakfast’s own space commentator Leo Enright, and asked him what the significance of this discovery is.

“This is the first time we’ve found one going around a star that is like our own and also is in the same region.

“Potentially, potentially, this could be another blue orb out there is the sky” Leo said, but before we find out more “we’re going to have to wait for new telescopes,” Leo said.
