Seán FitzPatrick's trial will now go ahead in May 2016 instead of October of this year following a ruling by the High Court this afternoon.

Mr Justice Michael Moriarty made his ruling on the case in the High Court this afternoon, with the case now postponed until May 25th.

Counsel for former Anglo Irish Bank chairman Mr FitzPatrick said he was seeking an injunction against the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to prohibit or restrain his client's continued prosecution.

The 66-year-old, with an address at Whitshed road in Greystones denies 27 charges including making misleading, false or deceptive statements and furnishing false information between 2002 and 2007.

Courts Correspondent Frank Greaney was at the High Court:

Earlier this month Judge Martin Nolan had ruled that Mr FitzPatrick's trial could go ahead, despite an application by his lawyers that the trial be postponed due to adverse publicity surrounding the trial of three former Anglo officials.

Judge Moriarty indicated yesterday that he was not of the mind to strike the case out as Mr FitzPatrick's lawyers had sought. Today he decided the case could go ahead, but he did approve an application for an adjournment.
