A 13-year-old rugby fan has proven that honesty really is the best policy after reuniting Jordi Murphy with his first ever Six Nations medal.

Stephen Murphy was one of the many fans who went out to the airport on Sunday to give the team a hero’s welcome home from Paris.

His dad Kieran spoke to Ivan Yates on Newstalk Breakfast and said that his son was determined to get the medal back to Jordi because he didn’t want him to wake up without it.

Jordi unwittingly gave over the medal to Stephen just as he was boarding the bus after generously giving him his team hoody.

When the family were returning to the car, Stephen found the medal in the pocket.

He really wanted to get the medal back but not before his 84-year-old Nana had a picture with the medal around her neck.

After some detective work, the family travelled to the Four Seasons where the team were celebrating, tracked Jordi down and gave him back the precious medal that he didn’t even know that he lost in the first place!

Kieran said that he was very proud of his son for giving the medal back.
