A man in News South Wales, Australia has been fined over €700 for spiking his wife's drink, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

The incident occurred when Christopher Chand took his wife out for dinner and drinks on April 12 of this year.

At around 11pm, Chand's wife began to grow tired and he was worried their night would come to an early end.

He then crushed one of his Ritalin tablets, a prescription drug he takes for his ADHD, and poured it into her wine glass.

Witnesses who saw the incident occur immediately informed the management. They decided to observe the woman's behaviour and watch for signs of intoxication.

When the pair finished their drinks and prepared to leave, staff examined the empty wine glass and saw a white substance along the rim and on the bottom of the glass. They then called the police.

A short time later, when Chand and his wife were in the 'throes of passion' at home, police knocked on the door and informed the couple that they had been alerted to the crime, much to her disgust and surprise.

Chand was charged with providing a drink containing an intoxicating substance to harm. He was fined $1000 aud (€700) and told he had an utter "lack of respect for his wife" by the Court.
