Members of the IMPACT trade union in the Limerick group of hospitals will from today refuse to cooperate with their chief operations manager in a row over his salary.

Liam Casey is paid €250,000 a year for the post which is in excess of the public pay cap.

IMPACT has written to the Public Accounts Commitee (PAC) requesting an investigation into the salary.

From today, its members will refuse to take instruction from the manager, provide data to him, or co-operate with any instructions issued from his office.

The action was supported by 90% of IMPACT members in a ballot at Limerick Regional, Ennis General, Limerick Maternity, Croom Orthopaedic and Nenagh General hospitals.
