The government could be reported to the EU commission over its failure to properly protect Ireland's seal population.

The Irish Seal Sanctuary says it fears significant numbers of seals are being deliberately killed.

It says the government's failure to investigate may force the group to report Ireland to the EU for breach of European protocols.
