Muslims from across Ireland gathered in Dublin this afternoon to protest the actions of ISIS.

They say that the acts committed by Islamic State do not reflect the views of their religion.

The 'Not in Our Name' protest took place on O’Connell Street in Dublin city centre.

One of the organisers - Shaykh Dr Umar Al-Qadri - says that they are offended by the acts of ISIS.

He says that this is not what his religion is about:

Organisers say they faced resistance from a few members of the Islamic community when promoting the event.

Al-Qadri says a member of the council was assaulted by someone at a mosque who claimed to support ISIS, while handing out leaflets to promote today's protest.

He says Muslims in Ireland need to take a stand against radical teachings:

"I believe that we should not call it the Islamic State...it is actually an unIslamic State," Shaykh Umar Al-Qadri told Newstalk Lunchtime earlier this week.

"So I would argue that media should not give legitimate authority to these people to these extremists by calling it an Islamic State," he added.
