Irish Coast Guard winches casualty to safety from Dollymount Beach in Dublin

A man in his 30s was winched to safety this morning by the Irish Coast Guard helicopter on Dollymount Beach in Dublin.

Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 116, Howth Coast Guard, Dun Laoghaire Lifeboat and gardaí were tasked to attend after a member of the public contacted emergency services at around 9am expressing concern for someone who was in the water.

The helicopter winchman was lowered into the water and successfully brought the casualty aboard.

The helicopter proceeded to Beaumont Hospital, where the casualty was transferred to A&E.

Station officer with the Irish Coast Guard, Tom Byrne, says the man was unconscious and suffering from severe hypothermia when they pulled him from the water:
