A man wanted in The Netherlands to stand trial for the murder of a Dublin criminal has been granted bail while he fights his extradition.

The mutilated body of Keith Ennis from Walkinstown was found dumped in an Amsterdam canal over five years ago.

Ennis, a well known Dublin criminal, went on the run after gardaí charged him with gun and drug offences.

In March 2009, his body parts were found stuffed in a suitcase and dumped in one of Amsterdam's canals.

Kenneth Brunell from Palmerstown and Barry McArdle from Drimnagh were arrested two years later and are wanted to stand trial for his murder.

Three months ago, an order was made to surrender both to the Dutch authorities - but that decision is being appealed to the Supreme Court.

Despite breaching bail conditions on two occasions in the past - the first because of an alleged threat on his life, the second due to family issues - Mr. Brunell was granted bail again today.

His father offered to put up €6,000 to ensure he shows up at future court appearances. A third man has already been extradited.
