Cork's Joanne O'Riordan has been named International Outstanding Young Person of the World Award.

O'Riordan was born with the extremely rare condition Total Amelia - which means she was born without limbs. She has long been a vocal and prominent supporter of human rights, children's rights and support for people living with disabilities - including speaking at the United Nations in 2011.

The judging panel said they selected Joanne for for the award because of her contribution to children, world peace and human rights. In addition, she took over half of the 26,000 online votes.
