The Education Minister Jan O'Sullivan says the overhaul of the Junior Certificate will still go ahead, despite one trade union voting against it.
Minister O'Sullivan says she has no plans to renegotiate the reform programme, despite the ASTI voting against it.
ASTI members voted against the proposals by 55% to 45% - however members of the TUI voted in a to accept the proposals by a margin of 69% to 31%.
The ASTI also announced it will continue its current industrial action as part of its dispute with the Department of Education.
The union says it will re-issue an industrial action directive of non-cooperation with the junior cycle - including non attendance of training events, and a refusal to engage with any school-based assessment.
Ms O'Sullivan has told the Dáil that the reforms are not only urgent, but are now long overdue.
She says the ASTI vote cannot be allowed to stop the reforms - and she has no interest in going back for further talks.
