A Limerick college says its website will remain down until its security is improved.

The homepage of Central College Limerick was hacked this morning by someone claiming to be from Islamic State (IS).

It carried the message: "This website has been hacked by the Islamic State in Syria....Ireland expect us".

There was also a large ISIS symbol and a photograph of a terrorist holding the ISIS flag.

A statement from the college says the website has been taken down and the material removed.

The college also says it is understood to be a random hacking due to the level of security on the website, which will remain down until an optimum level of security is in place.
