It’s one of the most anticipated Irish TV events of the year, but there has been no definitive indicator of when wildly successful Irish gangland drama Love/Hate would return to screens for its fourth season. Fans might be able to enjoy the return of Nidge and co. sooner rather than later, however.

According to rumours reported by the Irish Independent, the premiere of season 4 is only three weeks away, with an October 6th premiere being suggested. This fits with tradition - the series has typically started broadcasting new episodes in October or November, although with the last two seasons RTE has opted for an early November date. Given the lack of marketing surrounding the new season, the early premiere date is likely to catch many by surprise.

Details of the new series have been kept under wraps, but it is expected the season will feature a stronger focus on the police trying to bring down the criminals at the centre of the drama. It remains unclear how much of a role Robert Sheehan’s Darren will have in the drama, given both the events of last season and Sheehan’s rising international profile.

Whatever direction Love/Hate will take this season, it’s very possible RTE will be looking to fill the gap left behind by Breaking Bad following that show’s final episode on the 30th September.
