Shane Lowry has qualified for next month's US Open.

The Offaly native has bounced back from the disappointment of his runners-up finish behind Rory McIlroy at yesterday's PGA Championship to book his place in the field at Pinehurst No 2.

Lowry was taking part in the European qualifying section for the second Major of the year and followed up a 3-under par 69 for his first-round at Walton Heath to finish on 8-under par overall.

With the Top 14 finishers earning an invite to Pinehurst, Lowry is certain to qualify.
