Gardaí say a Loyalist protest march planned for Dublin on Saturday has been postponed.

But organisers say the march will still go ahead following more consultations with gardaí.

The Belfast Newsletter is quoting Willie Frazer of the Ulster People's forum as saying the group will soon travel to Dublin to discuss "concerns around IRA collusion and many other issues" in the "near future".

Mr. Frazer has indicated earlier that the protest would go ahead unless Gardai indicated it posed a threat to life.

Retail Ireland had written to the Garda Commissioner about the flag protest calling on him to use his powers to stop the gathering.

A group of protestors led by the Mr. Frazer - who organised the Love Ulster march in 2006 - planned to take their rally from Belfast to Dublin.

The Garda Siochana say they were in communication with a representative of Mr. Frazer today and that the discussions "were both positive and constructive".

In a statement the force says they facilitate peaceful protest and fully recognise the democratic right to do so.

Belfast violence continues

It is over the continuing controversy surrounding the flying of the Union flag over Belfast City Hall.

The flag was raised above City Hall in Belfast today to mark the birthday of the UK Duchess of Cambridge.

But weeks of protest have resulted in a nightly battles between police and demonstrators.

Over 100 arrests have been made since the trouble began.

Newstalk's Henry McKean captured this footage in east Belfast last night.
