A man has been arrested in County Clare after an Irish Water meter installer was threatened with a gun.
The man in his 50s is being questioned by gardaí in Ennis following the alleged incident in Clarecastle this morning.
At around 9.20 am, gardaí were called to a house at Key Road in the town where workers had arrived to install a water meter.
Gardaí are investigating reports that a worker had a rifle pointed at him by a local resident. However no shots were fired and nobody was injured in the incident.
The resident was arrested and taken to Ennis Garda station where he is still being held for questioning under Section 30 of the Criminal Justice Act.
In a follow-up search, gardai recovered a firearm from the river. It is not known whether the rifle was loaded and it is now being sent for technical examination.
