A man arrested by police investigating the murder of mother-of-10, Jean McConville from Belfast in 1972, has been released pending a report to prosecutors.

The 58 year-old man was held by detectives this morning and questioned at the PSNI serious crime suite in Antrim town.

Police say the interview was part of the “overall investigation” into the crime.

McConville's body was found on a beach in Co Louth eleven years ago. She was abducted from the Divis flats in Belfast by a gang of 12 masked men, wrongly accused of being an informant working against the IRA.

The PSNI have made a series of arrests in relation to the case this year. The most high profile was the four day detention of Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams. Mr Dams strongly denies any involvement in the crime.
