A man is being questioned after a serious assault in Dublin city centre yesterday.

A woman was violently attacked inside St Stephen's Green at 3:30pm.

The woman was transferred to hospital, but the extent of her injuries is not yet known.

A man detained in connection with the investigation is being held at Pearse Street Garda Station.

The attack was the second in the area in less than 12 hours.

A man is still fighting for his life after he was assaulted in an attack near a nightclub on St Stephen's Green just after 3am on Monday.

He is being treated in Beaumont Hospital.
