A man has been rescued after he was discovered floating in the River Liffey in Dublin's city centre.

The incident happened at around 4pm yesterday when a member of the public spotted a man in the water just under O'Connell Bridge.

The Dublin Fire Brigade were alerted and two water tankers, an ambulance and a boat were all used in the rescue operation.

The man was removed to the Mater Hospital where his condition is not yet known.
